Name: Yuume Souryuu ( 遊夢 - 蒼龍 (Playful Dream - Pale Dragon) )
Nicknames: THIS IS AMERRRRICA so guess what, it's more like 'Yume Soreeoo' or something. Most people just call her 'Yume'.
Date of birth/age: December 22 / 22
Gender: Female
Sexuality: (She's likely straight, but she hasn't put any thought into it at all; so it's quite confusing for her. She gets nervous regardless of who's hitting on her if it happens though really.)
Job: She's a full-time student..! LOANS. Actually, she's gotten herself a part-time position in a bookstore despite the work-load, so that it's not so bad when she's done classes.
Human or shifter: Human
Appearance: (PB: 'Song Hye Kyo')
Stupid tall for a Japanese woman, that's for sure. (She's 5'8''..!) She's rather fit; somewhat tube-like build (small chest, not so big hips), with enough muscle power to pull off quite a few interesting jumps if need be- she used to take martial arts of sorts back home, and attempts to maintain that via daily things such as walking/jogging/cycling CARRYING ALL THE BOOKS- (She weighs probably about 132..? SHE SHOULD CHECK MORE OFTEN.)
She has blue eyes and black brown hair, set on relatively pale skin. It's getting somewhat darker thanks to the area, but it's still pale. Her height and facial features can make her look rather intimidating, in the sense that she looks like she could be in a very powerful position... ...Which she really isn't and even implying that will have her sputtering about how that's hardly the case, haha.
Due to the weather, she can't wear what she would at home- turtle necks and jeans- but she wears long pants regardless (thin, airy material), and the shirts are typically just as breathable. She prefers light colours- pastel yellows, blues... She dislikes pink, dark or heavily saturated colours, and black though. (She really likes the colour white..!)
Personality: Yume... Is a little complex. Due to an incident around when the virus broke out, she's gained a fairly twisted outlook on herself, leaving whatever self-pride she has as little more than a facade. She's entirely certain that she's done some horrible thing, and can never be forgiven for it; it gives her nightmares, and keeps her awake most nights, regardless of what she does. (It's likely that if the nightmares were to go, she would slowly lose this feeling... But still.)
Rather intelligent, Yume is rather work-focused; she prefers not to think of anything that happened before she moved, and instead on her classes and her job. This isn't a very good idea, since she'll likely be quite stuck when she graduates... But nonetheless. Her belief in the fact that she's a failure is ironically what drives her to do so well in the things she's focused on; she feels that to do poorly in something would be to fail someone else, and can't bear to allow that to happen.
That's more on the inside however; Yume's a whole bundle of problems in there, problems that should probably be addressed in a 'second half'.
On the surface, Yume tends to seem rather stiff, if even cold. When talking to her, she'll try to be polite however; her voice is rather calm, despite its strength. She seems to feel obligated to help people when she can, and listens quite well. It might be hypocrisy half the time, but she still responds with what she feels will help, when it's 'right'. She's a very understanding person, if at least of other people.
(For herself, AHHHHHHH SHE IS A FOOL)
And then there's when someone gets her going on myths and history. That is the moment when the Yume she was before a certain incident comes up, a very EXCITED, and exceedingly animated Yume. She will talk and talk about this subject with a grinning face until someone snaps her out of it, at which point she'll likely flush, apologize, and revert to her quiet and severe state. She'll feel rather bad for it at that, cursing herself for wasting someone's time.
She's quite self-deprecating really; if she can possibly find fault in herself for something she WILL. It's quite likely that the only reason she's still even alive is because of how equally stubborn and dedicated to keeping promises she is. More importantly, protective. If someone manages to get in her inner circle (...which is currently non-existent.), and that someone is hurt, you are in for a world of just as much if not potentially more pain. It's extremely hard to give her a temper- annoy, not so much.
But a temper? It would be good to pray in that case.
At any rate, possibly due to her strictly study-oriented schedule and habit to become immersed in her interests in mythology, she doesn't actually do too well with taking care of herself. Oh exercise is fine!
Walking everywhere, carrying books everywhere... And hygene, that's more or less okay. She makes sure to keep clean before going anywhere at least.
But she's always eating cheap instant foods...
And she doesn't get much sleep if any...
And she'll probably try to flusteredly refuse or deny any help on fixing those terrible habits, in the end..!!
She used to be quite cheerful and stubborn after all, and it's moments like that when she isn't allowed to dwell on the past that she's trying and failing to forget that it comes through.
On a more precise and specific note... Shifters. She's perfectly fine with them, but the moment she realizes she's sitting/talking/doing whatever with one, she'll take special care to watch her hygene. She's polite about it... But don't expect to share a water bottle or something with her, she's paranoid.
Strengths: RESEARCH. ALL. THE MYTHS. ...Oh and she's also good at listening to people's problems- she's quite the mediator! ...Also kendo, not that that's usefu-
Oh is that a stick? ...OH.
OH.
Weaknesses: She has a terrible sweet-tooth, a tendency to get sucked into rambling about history and myth, but really, those are all just cupcakes compared to the sheer amount of self-hate she has going on. She's not open or obvious about it either- but that's only because she feels it would needlessly worry other people...
...Yuuuuumeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Oh, and she also hates the dark. With a passion. NIGHTMARES... (urk-) Speaking of dark, she also has an intense aversion to ravens and crows and really any corvid that happens to be black, for reasons down below.
History: Yume was born in a relatively 'average' family, in a sense. Her great-grandfather was a fairly rich man, and very focused on keeping relatives close together, so it was safe to say that she was able to go to the 'better schools'- quite important in Japan.
But Yume additionally had the 'misfortune' of bearing close resemblance to a since deceased sibling of her great-grandfather, a man who had been praised considerably for his intelligence and logic. Her family caught the words 'you look exactly like him', and without even intending to, they attempted to make the statement hold. Pressuring her at such a young age to always do better than her best, claiming that there was more room for improvement... 'you should try to think more', 'stop reading stories like that', 'you should do this' 'that'...
It was too much for Yume, and so Yume refused. If she was expected to read non-fiction books, then she would bury herself in the fables and fairytales at the other end of the library. If she was expected to pay attention in classes, then she would just draw all day. Soon, Yume was skipping classes to run and play, blowing raspberries at anyone who cared to chase after her...
...Even when her parents merely asked for her to stay in the building. Somehow, Yume managed to hold out through most of highschool though, despite no grades. Perhaps it was family influence... But perhaps, it was because she didn't skip quite as often.
Nearing the end of middle school- the start of ninth grade- she would hide in an open window of a strangely large house while hiding again. The girl inside was surprised... But covered for her when someone came to check on her wellbeing, allowing them to talk once that person was gone. The girl was named 'Kimi'. She couldn't go outside much... She had some sort of disease, a disorder that she had been born with that left her bedridden. Yume was the first person she'd seen that her parents hadn't arranged for her to meet with... Kimi was quite interested in Yume.
So the two shared stories... And the two became friends. And when Kimi voiced wishes of being able to go to school and such, Yume began to go more often, dropping by on weekends, or after class instead. It became a regular occurence...
And then, years later, came the virus. Yume was lucky, perhaps. Somehow, her family didn't come in contact. But despite this...
Kimi did. When Yume went to visit Kimi, she was gone- and she thought the worst had happened.
That Kimi was one of the people who died after it. But then... She was wrong..! Outside her window...
Was a silvery white fox. Kimi didn't turn back until she turned around- but she was happy..! Her parents had taken her far away from the city then she was infected, to stay with other relatives. They thought she would die as well... But she didn't..! Her parents didn't seem to take it too well... But they got over it- and she was healthy again... She could breathe properly, and run, and jump and it was amazing...
And Yume wondered... If she got sick, would she have that happen to? Something that would finally prove to her family that she was her, and not someone else..?
They never did find out. Kimi lived away from the city from then on, preferring to spend time as a fox when she could. Yume was able to come and visit after convincing her family- who supposed that it would be okay to meet the girl that convinced her to stay in school, not knowing that the girl was a shifter as well.
And the two went to play in the woods, Kimi's grandma warning them that it was hunting season, so keep to the trail..!
And of course, they didn't listen. Kimi turned into a fox, and the two tried to play a bizarre game of hide and seek... And before they got there she they talked all about what could happen- Yume always wanted to fly right? Maybe they'd find a song bird? Ahhhh but no, Yume would protest, those are too small, too small..! Ah, well if it was size, then maybe she should be a bear then! (AH, A bear!? And besides, bears can't fly..!) Ignoring the fact that, of course, there was never any control over it.
While Kimi-the-fox lay with her against the trees, they heard something. It was getting dark... Birds above looked like crows in the shadows, with their silhouettes barely visible. Kimi made a sort of gesture to stay put- she'd see what was happening! And then...
-BANG- Gunfire...
Kimi wasn't dead yet. Yume heard the shot but she couldn't move, and all she could see was a slowly approaching shadow. Maybe someone muttered about shooting something... Maybe... But Kimi was looking at her and the shadow was coming and the light was leaving her eyes and the birds all flew away-
And she ran.
She has nightmares of that night. And every night after. She left Kimi alone, let her die (even though she was already dying, already dead, it wasn't her fault)... Maybe if she'd just gone home with Kimi. Or if they hadn't gone off the trail or...
Everything after that was a blur. There was no human body- Kimi's family knew, but they had nothing to bury. And once Yume's family knew there was a whole other mess, of 'did you get the virus', 'are you sick', 'what happened'...
She closed up. Transferred schools... Buried herself like she did when she was little, but this time there was no smiling to go with it, and instead she sat at the back of her class in silence. As soon as she was able, she used most of the trust fund her relatives had put together to pave a path to a major in Anthropology. And regardless of how much her parents try to contact her, she tries to cut all ties. All of them. Because she has to.
She...
She can never get sick, okay?
