Name: Penelope Victoria Fitzcain
Nicknames: Penny
Date of birth/age: 10/16/1996, 16
Gender: Female
Sexuality: homoromantic demisexual
Job: Student, homeschooled
Human or shifter: Shifter
Appearance: (Playby: Milagros Schmoll) Penny is just shy of six feet tall, and very long-limbed for her height. She's a bit underweight, and moves awkwardly. She has grey-hazel eyes, short red hair, and too many freckles. Very rarely does she make eye contact when she talks, but when she's not talking she tends to stare. She often 'whistles' (not really whistling but making bird noises) to herself.
Personality: Penny was diagnosed with atypical autism (PDD-NOS, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified) when she was three. She's what a lot of people would call high-functioning, but her parents tend to treat her like she's incapable of taking care of herself. She despises talking to people when it doesn't have to do with music, especially on the phone. She loves her violin, her little brother, and her pet parrot (though not always in that order).
She's an extremely talented musician, but dealing well with others is not her strong suit, and unfortunately, required if you want to play in an orchestra. Lately, she's starting to get the impression that her parents don't seem to plan on her leaving ever, and she's not sure she likes that idea at all.
Strengths:
+Violin prodigy
+Perfect pitch
+Extremely wide vocal range
+Skilled mimic
+Clever when engaged in something that interests her
+Good with digital music programs
+One of the few non-musical things she likes is cooking and baking. But she doesn't eat much. She just fills the fridge.
Weaknesses:
-Poorly socialized
-Bad communication skills
-Parents treat her like she's less capable than she is
-Uncooperative outside her areas of interest
-Since she caught versi, Penny is increasingly prone to stereotypies in the form of echolalia/echopraxia (repeating words and motions respectively)
-Reliant on her daily routine
History: Penny was lucky, in many ways -- she had parents who were well off enough to consult experts at the first hint that there might be something unusual about her, for one. For another, her parents were inclined to listen to said experts, but that was a mixed blessing because sometimes Penny disagreed with her doctors rather vehemently.
But her parents were always more than willing to indulge her when it came to music, which made up for when they just didn't understand. Penny was deeply glad for her younger brother, Aaron -- he turned out neurotypical, and him acting in what Penny was told was a normal childlike fashion seemed to make her parents happier. And he thought his sister was great. Penny, whose interactions with 'normal' children tended to go dubiously at best, thought it was great that he thought she was great.
Penny caught versi very early on in the epidemic, when she was 11, and her fits of bird-like behavior were initially misdiagnosed as being due to febrile encephalitis. She'd attended a private school before, but once the full effects of versi became clear, her parents decided to homeschool her. She started acting extremely withdrawn and spending most of her time in animal shape, rarely shifting back for anything but violin practice.
In an effort to make sure she was getting at least some social interaction, her parents purchased another parrot named Sophie. It helped her out a great deal, and within a year or so, Penny returned to what was normal for her. Her parents, though, still operate under the impression that she needs help with every little thing.
✓►SHIFTER◄
Species: African Grey Parrot, Psittacus erithacus erithacus
Group: Bird
Conservation status: Near Threatened
Appearance:
Abilities: Her hearing and eyesight are exceptionally keen, no change to strength, speed, or stamina. Light and fragile for her weight - low bone density, possibly hollow boned, it's not like anyone can open her up and check. She has a parrot's vocal mimicry skills.
