How did you find us: Well, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
Codeword: Goo goo g'choo?

Name: Basil Marwick
Nicknames: Baz, Southpaw
Date of birth/age: 41, January 5th, 1971
Gender: Male
Sexuality: ... Debatable. He's never really given it a thought. Does 'mostly indifferent' count?
Job: Small business owner
Degrees/Permits: Several small business licenses, Bachelor of Business Administration
Languages Spoken: English, French Norwegian (slightly broken), something close to Old Norse.
Human or shifter: Shifter
Appearance:
Played-by is Martin Freeman. Baz is slightly compact, only standing at 5'7" on a good day and having a build like what you'd expect of the average fellow his age. Just that. Average. Run-of-the-mill. He's an everyman, at least for where he's from, and he's the kind of fellow that you often see and forget on the street every day. In colder places like New York and London, at least. In Miami he tends to stick out.
Were he anywhere else in North America, he'd dress warmly, favouring layers and wool. Here? Not so much. He still tends to layer, but it's thin fabrics on thin fabrics. Light dress shirts under thin suit coats, short sleeves when it gets incredibly warm.
His eyes are a very dark blue, and his hair's a sort of mousy-brown. He's been in Miami for a few years and has yet to gain any colour. Bit odd, but it's probably genetic, considering his background. He doesn't mind at all. Just complains every too often that he spends far too much on sunscreen.
Personality: Basil is calm, dependable, (mostly) level-headed, and loyal. When he places his faith in someone or something, he'll be there for that cause or person until they shoo him away. He's smart enough to have it not be blind faith, however. Baz learned that lesson fairly fast. Everything, especially with the last five years in mind, is a test of this faith to him. He'll slog through it, even if reluctantly. That being said, he's a wonderful listener, and can often be found on that end of a conversation. People are engaging and interesting if they have a story to tell, and since everyone does, everyone... well, is. He does have a bit of an issue with his temper, though. If one manages to trigger it, it's like setting off an avalanche. It builds over time until something manages to stop it and calm him down. He also enjoys jazz music and plays the trumpet fairly well.
Basil's also quite religious and often cites his faith as his greatest strength. He's a Christian, but doesn't exactly stick to just the one religion. He enjoys researching new (to him, at least) faiths and exploring how they practice, even picking up a few practices himself along the way. Theologically speaking he specializes in Norse, and is currently trying to learn a bit of the language. Baz is not an extremist, and he doesn't view Versi as a curse on humanity by whatever deities have influence over those kinds of things. It happened, it's not going away, so everyone should quiet down and work together to deal with it. If only things were that simple. He's slightly fatalistic in his approach on most things, but manages to keep grasping at straws when it comes to hope. He calls it his version of realism.
Strengths:
+ His faith is indeed his greatest strength. It's carried him through quite a bit so far, and it'll just keep carrying him until he ever loses it.
+ Being a bit of a human katamari ball when it comes to religion, Baz knows quite a few different facts about each one he's studied.
+ He's ambidextrous, favouring his left of course.
+ He doesn't get distracted easily.
+ That listening thing I mentioned before? Yep, that's a strength. He likes listening and he's good at it, and sometimes he's even able to assist in any problems the speaker might have.
Weaknesses:
- That temper of his. One of these days he's going to fly off the handle and hurt someone.
- It's pretty easy to get him upset. If he doesn't fly off the handle and yell, he's sulk for a while. Sometimes up to a week at a time.
- He's incredibly blunt when he's aggravated in the slightest. He's hurt quite a few feelings in his time.
- If he physically exerts himself too much, he'll be stuck in a winded state for a while.
- Baz is an incredibly light sleeper and exhibits symptoms of restless legs syndrome on a regular basis. No, the soap trick doesn't work for him, he's tried.
History: Basil was born in Ottawa, even though both his parents hail from the south of England. Even to this day he's not exactly sure why they moved there and made the bid for citizenship, they just did. Both of his parents were also quite religious, which obviously influenced quite a bit of his personality. He had an average childhood with very few memorable mishaps and went to a small public school. There, he made a few close friends who sort of... faded out over time. The boy was more interested in learning about history, music, and mythology than anything else. He joined the school band at ten and was always quite upset that he never made first-chair trumpet until his final year there.
At first, he went to university for business like his parents had both wanted him to. It was difficult to keep him interested for very long, and he had to supplement his major courses with a few classes that were more dear to his heart just to keep him going to school at all. Almost dropping out right before graduation wasn't exactly his finest moment. Once he'd graduated, he continued with his job as a clerk at a small parish church while looking around for jobs that would possibly encompass both his degree and his love of history and theology. Naturally, he didn't find any until he was quite a bit older.
In early 2002, he inherited a bookstore in Miami. No, he still doesn't know why. He didn't even know the relative very well to begin with. They just met the once. he would have sold it if he hadn't found out what kind of bookstore it actually was. The name at the time was Lohengrin's Rest, and it specialized more in coffee than it did literature. Basil visited and instantly fell in love with the building and the tomes contained within. Quickly as he could he made the arrangements and took over the business, moving as close by as he possibly could. The building was renovated just a bit, to make even more room for the books, and renamed appropriately. Mimir's Haunt re-opened the following year.
The year 2007 came and passed for Basil like it did any other. The next year was much of the same, until the winter. He continued working until Versi knocked him off his feet. Being able to turn into a Fjord horse struck him as an extremely amusing twist of fate due to the breed's age and origin. He's just lucky he didn't get something smaller, like a hedgehog or something.
✓►SHIFTER◄
Species: Fjord Horse (Equus ferus caballus)
Group: Mammals
Conservation status: Least Concern/Domesticated
Appearance:
Abilities: What the Fjord horse lacks in size, it makes up for in strength, agility, and stamina. The same is true for Baz, especially with the virus' modifications. His senses stayed relatively the same, but he can lift and haul a bit more than the average man his size. He can run faster too, and for longer than he used to be able. In exchange, his muscles tend to 'burn out' quicker in human form, and often ache for days if he pushes himself too far.
