Name: Marina Leone
Nicknames: Rin (only by close friends/family)
Date of birth/age: 29 October, 1992 (Nineteen)
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Job: College student studying criminal law, unemployed.
Degrees/Permits: High school diploma.
Languages Spoken: English, some Italian (conversational).
Human or shifter: Shifter.
Appearance:
PB: Naima Mora
Tall, thin, and rather striking, Marina is very willowy, almost too thin (and because of this, can seem fragile) standing at 5'8" and a below-average 140 lbs. She is very slender, with few curves and more of a boyish build; because of this she's rather bony, though healthy (surprisingly). With smoke-grey eyes and tanned skin her mixed heritage is evident. Her hair is kept in various eccentric manners, usually dyed a mix of brown with blonde tips and kept in a mohawk with buzzed sides; when Marina grows it out she keeps it long to one side with the other side buzzed. Marina is unafraid to stand out in a crowd so she is well-kempt and meticulously makes sure every bit of her is presentable. Makeup is a must and she knows just the right amount to wear to bring out her features. Marina doesn't have any tattooes and her ears are pierced twice each, also possessing a pierced bellybutton. She knows she'll need to ditch the 'rebellious' look someday, but for now she likes to stand out.
Marina has clothes like one wouldn't believe, with a huge wardrobe that she takes a lot of pride in. She dresses very feminine, very much keeping in line with current fashion and accessorizing. There is never a time that she doesn't have matching shoes, matching purse, and matching jewelry for her outfits. Not one to wear a lot of pants, she likes skirts and dresses the most and enjoys flowy fabrics, generally with brighter colors or prints. Marina always trawls shops looking for new things to buy and her outer appearance is something she is very picky about. She completely prides herself on her looks.
Personality: A very controlled, reserved, and confident person, Marina presents herself as a no-nonsense woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. Normally with a very placid, almost cold outer shell it only serves to mask an intense need to be at the top of her game. A perfectionist by nature, failure is not an option and Marina will do whatever she can for her goals, highly passionate. She doesn't know when to give up and because of this works very hard to 'prove herself' to the world. She doesn't particularly enjoy being given 'no' as an answer. Independent as well, Marina claims to truly need no one else, surprisingly mature for her age and with an intricate vocabulary to boot. There's definitely something alluring about her despite her tangled inner complexity.
It's no question that Marina has high standards, both for herself and for others, and she seems to scrutinize those that slack off or complain. She is picky with those that she gives her attentions to, and is known to ignore or rebuke those that she doesn't like. She's jaded in many senses and this can perhaps cloud her judgment with others. For those that she befriends she shows 'tough love' to; she cares deeply for those that give her a chance and aren't afraid to stand up to her level. While people might consider her passive-aggressive and distant, Marina desperately wants people to accept her. Her issues with trust and secrets is something she is slowly coping with, as well as letting others past her outer shell. Her ambitious determination will get her places for sure, but she has yet to learn how to curb her sharper edges.
Marina has a big interest in theatre and performance, especially live shows, and she enjoys shopping as well as crime movies/shows as her top loves. As hard as she studies she indulges in reading fashion magazines to unwind and has an odd interest in soccer and tennis (which she watches often, secretly). Marina also adores dancing and is out at clubs often to do so. She at one point played the viola but has since stopped doing so, though she listens to instrumental music often as an homage to that time period. Marina frequently drags her roommate Harper Braun with her where she goes and despite nagging and nitpicking she knows Harper is her best and one of her only friends.
Strengths:
+ Analytical. Marina is very good at minute details and finding solutions to complex problems through a lot of dedicated research.
+ Independent. She is a take-charge caretaker and knows many life skills, from cooking and cleaning to changing a flat tire; if she can't do it, she'll still try it herself.
+ Leader. Good at delegating and highly organized, Marina does work well with groups (so long as everyone pitches in) and handles stress decently.
+ Honest. No matter what, Marina simply cannot lie, and even white lies tend to bother her until she comes clean. She believes in truth and loyalty as two key traits in people.
+ Intelligent. Marina is also quite clever and very calculating and concise.
Weaknesses:
- Resentful. When scorned, Marina is a woman who doesn't forgive easily and she is known to be brooding and, if pushed enough, vindictive and cruel.
- Sensitive. Marina can be easily hurt and experiences rather quick changes in mood, also quick to irritation or anger.
- Apathetic. While she can hold a conversation with someone Marina truly doesn't understand others emotions well, and doesn't realize at times why or how she is hurting others with her actions. She also has a hard time apologizing and admitting she's wrong.
- Pessimistic. Not an inherently positive person, Marina questions the motives of people often and frequently thinks of consequences before benefits.
- Workaholic. Marina doesn't know when to relax, feeling nervous and antsy when she's not doing something, a trait she herself hates but can't seem to break.
History: From a young age, Marina knew she was well off, and she indulged in the lifestyle often. Her cozy, pampered upbringing came from two parents that did well in their lives and brought up the girl in an upper-class household. The oldest of twins, her sister a fraternal twin two minutes younger than her, Marina was definitely the princess and she demanded attention even as a child. It was evident that despite being twins, her and her sister were very different, her sister the passive artistic type and her the driven analytical type. Marina buried herself in hobbies and schoolwork to cope with the fact that her parents were frequently busy and the two never spent that much time with their daughters, both respectable doctors. Marina has always felt that this distance made her grow up significantly faster and she learned to only rely on herself and her sister for things, the only consistencies in her life.
The sporadic appearances of her parents was something that made Marina bitter in the end and she grew up with the harsh reminders of how lonely she felt. This pushed Marina to chisel out a strict path for herself in the future, hoping that when she made a difference that someone would finally look her way. She enjoys a fairly relaxed relationship with her twin, not the closest, but there is a mutual respect there and they keep in touch despite the distance they have now going to separate schools in different states. Her college is paid for, both on scholarship for her grades and due to her parents, who by now seem to partially realize how fast that their daughters have grown and attempt to make up for lost time with support in other means. Things between them are fairly tense still, though some part of Marina hopes something can be salvaged; she has always craved the communication and understanding she lacked for years.
Law is something very intriguing to Marina with her strong sense of justice and she decided to pursue criminal law for this reason. She has clear-cut dreams to be a lawyer and travel up the courts, perhaps being a judge someday. She hasn't thought much of her own personal life, however, and inklings of an empty loneliness have only just begun to settle in the back of her mind. Marina may know what will make her successful, but she doesn't yet know how to make herself truly happy.
While in high school Marina and her sister both contracted the Versi virus and recovered seemingly unscathed. Marina didn't show symptoms of being a shifter until two and a half years later when she was a senior and she shifted for the first time, thankfully around her twin. She made her sister swear not to tell her parents or anyone else, somehow keeping it a secret to them even until now. She absolutely hates the fact that she became a shifter and has yet to really cope or tolerate the change. Marina has done all she can to attempt normalcy, also thanks to Harper who helps take care of things if any shifting goes awry. Marina just sees shifting as a nuisance and imperfection and she cannot easily tolerate it.
