Name: Felix Katz
Nicknames: Feelix
Date of birth/age: November 14th and he's 20.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Job: Unemployed University of Miami student.
Degrees/Permits: Driver's license and high school diploma from Canada.
Languages Spoken: Fluent in English and knows a bit of French and Hebrew. His French is functional, while his Hebrew is Biblical and mostly revolves around a couple passages from the Torah and Talmud.
Human or shifter: Shifter.
Appearance:
(Picture of and by Mike Motsok.)
Felix is a man slightly on the taller side. He's lithe and has a slim build; his limbs are long and more than a little lanky.
His hair is jet black and spikey, while his skin is a light tan. His eyes are green-grey, and he loves them. A long nose is the main feature of his face, along with a wide mouth and a long jawline. He can generally be found smirking.
He usually wears clothing that are not particularly edgy or dark, sticking mostly to clothes some would call 'preppy' or 'hipster': he likes his scarves, his ironic t-shirts, jeans, and polo shirts. Comments from the peanut gallery about this, however, are not welcome.
Personality:
Felix is a clever man with a competitive streak a mile wide. Arrogant, forward, and showy, he courts trouble every time he meets someone. He loves talking to people and his goal in every encounter is to be liked-- but with a personality like his, this can frequently backfire. His arrogance can be balanced out by playfulness, wit, gregariousness, and a nature that is genuinely interested in those around him.
He's impatient and demanding of those he considers close. He holds personal friends to high standards of intelligence, morality, and accomplishment, while having a forgiving attitude towards those he interacts with but does not consider close. This can cause bitterness and hard feelings on many ends.
His every action is to him a show and production. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing grandly. He loves being with people, and a little too much of his self-worth is measured by popularity.
He's moody, possessing a temper. He tends not to take it out on random people, inside burrowing away somewhere and sulking for a length of time. But if he views the offending person as malicious or harmful, he's the type to tear into them.. Even if not offended, he'll gladly argue because he's one of those people who likes arguing.
Overall, he means well. He wants to be a leader and someone who others look up to, but his own flaws cause him problems. The thing about Felix is that the less close you are to him, the more likely you are to think he's cool.
Strengths: Felix is inhumanly friendly. He's interested in just about anyone who walks by him, and that tends to get him friends. Felix is pretty clever as well, and absorbs information like a sponge. He's got a memory for facts.
He's got a mind for plans and plots too, and while his ability to compete plot-wise is less when not given time to think, when given warning, he can spin some pretty interesting things. He's eloquent and has enough personal charisma to be a force to be reckoned with when he's out to persuade someone.
Physically, he's got stamina and agility on his side. He's light on his feet, can jump pretty high, and can do this for longer than most. Sense-wise, his form's hearing and sensitivity to movement has come through, along with smell. He deeply wishes it hadn't, for all the benefit it can give him.
Weaknesses: Felix's weaknesses can be boiled down to sloth, anger, arrogance, and selfishness for personality flaws. Physically, he's not strong and has no training in fighting. His enhanced senses are also a problem.
Felix prefers to be lazy. He doesn't like doing work that can be done by someone else, or any work really. If he had his way, he would be a professional gamer. His sloth is not only in general laziness, but also takes the form of something more malicious. If there's a large problem in his life, he's more likely to just stop caring than devote energy and time to fixing it. His sloth is also /emotional/ sloth, which has repeatedly proven to be an issue for him.
Anger is another problem. He doesn't use it productively, as that would involve getting emotionally tied up in it and giving a fuck. Instead he uses it to blast those he views as wrong or immoral, and then clams up. It's not channeled into anything.
Arrogance is pretty self-explanatory. He thinks he's awesome, which people find obnoxious. He needs people to feed into this myth of awesomeness and reacts poorly when someone doesn't. He's competitive /and/ arrogant, and will frequently compete with people who do not even care. His ego is paramount, and that causes conflict for him. It also makes him prime for manipulation.
Selfishness is another part of his ego. He is the star of his own show, and this show is sacrosanct. Hecklers are not welcome.
His lack of strength and combat training makes him vulnerable. He's built for fleeing, not fighting. If someone has above average strength, unless he's dodging a lot, he's going to tip. This is part of the reason Felix does not fight fair, and will bring a gun to a knife fight. Even if he gets the jump on someone, he's unlikely to be able to do something with it, unless he's wielding a weapon that requires little to no skill to use.
His senses are a huge issue for him. While not the equal of a fox's, they're much better than a human's would be in terms of hearing. He's also obtained a fox's reaction to movement. This makes something like a fireworks display or concert the equivalent of armageddon. He tends to be found wearing headphones, but music is rarely playing. It's used to help muffle all the things he's stuck hearing, and block out the noises that drive him up the wall.
He has no idea what to do with his sensitivity to movement. He wasn't particularly aware of it before, but now he's like a fox in a chicken coop. Movement makes him jumpy and wired and he hates it beyond words.
History:
Felix was born to Jacob Katz and Leah Katz nee Aouate in Montreal. Jacob's family were immigrants from Poland, while Leah's family was from Morocco. Both are second generation immigrants to Canada.
Leah is a lawyer, while Jacob is a bank manager. Felix was raised as upper-middle class, and a single child at that. He was fairly spoiled and the apple of his family's eye. He spent his childhood in Ontario and lived an average life.
In school, he excelled both academically and socially. He devoted little time to athletics. He was raised in a liberal Jewish household, and would learn most of the basics of Judaism. Whether or not he believes is another question.
He was in high school when Versi broke out. He lived in a city during this time, and while his parents contemplated moving to the country as the illness whipped through the world, the reveal of the mortality rates kept them in the city. They took precautions and continued on with their lives.
His mother was the only person other than him to fall ill in his family. She was ill for a short time, and recovered swiftly, though she did not become a shifter. This earned Versi a lot of playful derision that Felix took maybe a little too seriously.
When he went to university, he was thrilled. He didn't know what his degree would be in, or where he was going, but he was just happy to be on the road and away from his family. This excitement vanished in his second semester. He fell ill in February 2010, and things snowballed from there.
He was too ill to take exams, and so they were deferred. When he was well again, things went back to bad-- his first experience with transformation was in the middle of introduction to economics. One second he was him, the next he was drifting off and waking as a fox.
His control over his transformation was non-existent. As his senses changed, he found it almost impossible to focus on schoolwork, and the anxiety that his transformations caused eventually made him drop out.
He spent the next two and a half years working at his mother's law firm and taking long-distance courses. Unfortunately, he still had a bit of a reputation at his university for being 'that fox guy' and so he decided to transfer when the prospect of going to a physical school came up. The plan was, originally, for him to stay in the country, but his time with his parents had slowly driven him up the wall. They wanted him nearby, and he wanted to be as far away as possible.
Choosing the University of Miami was convoluted and random. It involved alcohol, the internet, and friends. It may have ended in a drunk fox passed out in bed and a half-filled application by the time the night ended. His parents were bemused as to /why/ he chose UoM, but they went with it. At least he was going back to school, right?
So he currently lives in Miami, his living standards thoroughly paid for by his parents. He's a second year student at UoM. He spends most of his time messing around with video games, speaking to friends, and wandering Miami. At home, he spends more time than he should as a fox, though he doesn't shift in public. As much as he loves being a shifter, he's aware of the people who don't.
Since becoming a shifter, he's gained an appreciation for meat that

Species: Red fox or vulpes vulpes.
Group: Mammal.
Conservation status: Least concern.
Appearance:

Abilities:
Felix's strength received no improvement, much to his sulking. He's purely average in it. However his agility and senses increased. His healing ability is that of an average human. His stamina is average as well, while his agility used to be above average and now qualifies as on the upper spectrum.
Hearing and sensitivity to motion are his big areas. If something moves slightly, he's likely to zero in on it. His sense of smell improved, but it's only above average for a human.
Shifting is something that comes naturally-- a little too naturally. It's not unusual for him to be found at his computer in fox form, curled up. Partial shifting, for all his fascination with it, does not. His instincts with his form are very much either/or. There's no room for partial fox things. Whether or not he'll ever be able to achieve partial shifting is iffy, and he personally admits that it's probably never going to happen.
