To keep in mind while creating a human character.
The people who are still human, over 60% of the earth's population, are still human because of three possible reasons: they just plain didn't get febris versipellis, they were immune to it or they got it and simply did not become shifters. It's that simple.
You should keep in mind, though, that while the pandemic has come to a halt, there might be future plots and instances that might allow the infection to spread and could get your character infected if you want them to. There will be future possibilities for infection, we're just not telling when and how until it happens.
Another, very important thing to keep in mind in regards to the plot is your character's stance on shifters. There are people who are positive towards them, people who are negative and people who are neutral. Naturally, there are extremists on every side. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of humans who are worried about getting infected and who aren't completely certain that they won't get febris versipellis by drinking from the same mug or using the same bathroom. There will be cases where the versi infected will be considered victims by some and monsters by others.
