The best thing about Starbucks had to be how utterly disorganized it seemed to get at the high points of the day. There were all shapes and sizes of people running around and trying to grab their coffee, lunch, or a seat. So much so that you would hardly ever see the same person twice, barring the circumstances of routine. The different sights and sounds and the smell of food, drink, and different shifters that were either there or had passed through all jumbled together into an incredibly stimulating experience.
Sometimes it was a bit too stimulating. Tom was hunched over his coffee, hand to a temple. He should have really hired someone to go grab coffee every once in a while. He certainly made enough to hire someone for it. But the rewards were worth the risks, and he was stubbornly stuck in his usual ways. The process didn't bring him straight to a headache every day though, it was only once in a little while that the trip to refuel led to him wishing that he hadn't gone outside at all during the Versi crisis.
A rasping, low growl formed in his throat and never reached his vocal cords. Yes, he realized he was being an idiot by staying in a busy Starbucks with a headache because it was noisy. No, he wasn't about to get up and leave. He wasn't finished his coffee yet, he wasn't going anywhere until he did. Headaches be damned, it would take a hell of a lot to move him from that chair before he wanted to move.
