PB: Robert Downey JrUse ALL THE AVENGERS CAST!
Paul stands at an incredibly intimidating 5'8". (He often picks on the fact that he's shorter than a good chunk of the seniors.) He has brown eyes and dark brown hair that's almost always messy (it's gotten even messier recently, since he turns into a giant fluffy polar bear of a dog) and happens to be just starting to grey at the sides, even though he's still fairly young. It's probably Versi's fault, but he doesn't seem to mind. At this rate, he'll probably be completely silver by the time he hits 50. He doesn't exactly shave all that often, so he always has a beard. On the rare occasion that he does, he always manages to keep at least a 5 o'clock shadow at all times. His hands are always stained with some type of paint or ink, and he always keeps a pen behind his left ear.
Wardrobe wise, he's almost always wearing a pair of jeans and a pair of boots. Casual Fridays and outside work, he's usually wearing a t-shirt under a leather jacket. Or a t-shirt under a blazer under said jacket. On not-casual days at work, it's a t-shirt under a partially open dress shirt under a tweed or pinstriped blazer. Seriously, the guy only owns about... three ties. And he doesn't wear them all that often. Only to formal events or if there are going to be pictures taken.
Personality: Paul is your stereotypical 'cool' teacher. He owns a nice car ('nice' in his mind meaning a black and chrome monster of a thing thing form the early 70s), attends a few clubs as chaperone, and always does his best to learn whatever slang is going around school. He cares deeply for his students, but never misses a beat when it comes to discipline. It's an important part of school, learning what's right and wrong. Especially if a student didn't learn it from their own parents. Creativity and discipline, to him, are the greatest things a person can possess personality-wise.
He loves holidays, especially Halloween, and usually decorates for each one just a touch too early. Or tries to, at least. Paul views spring as a holiday in itself, and normally decorates for that as well. His classroom looks more like that of a primary teacher instead of the level he's actually teaching at. He's also fond of letting his students listen to music, (as long as it's safe for listening to at school) while they learn. It helps boost their creativity and as long as it's not too loud it's not hurting anybody, right?
Outside of work, he's incredibly affectionate. He prefers high fives to hugs though, unless someone's really close to him. Paul loves action and horror movies, anything that'll keep him on the edge of his seat. He'd go to a theme park to get that thrill, but his fear keeps him firmly planted on the ground. Except for when said fear has him clinging to the nearest object or person. He's jumped into a few arms in his time. His sense of humour is mildly self-depreciative, and he's quick to jump straight into sarcasm.
Strengths:
+ Creative. And not just in an artistic sense. He's very, very resourceful.
+ He cares. Seriously, toss a troubled student his way, and he's just as good as any guidance counsellor.
+ He's a pretty damn good artist. That comes with the job most of the time. His work has even been featured in a few galleries.
+ Tech savvy. Busted projector? Television won't turn on? Not in his classroom. Paul usually keeps a roll of electric tape on him at all times, just in case.
+ He's not exactly trained, but he can fight fairly well.
Weaknesses:
- He cannot take a good photo.
- Slightly overbearing and easily excitable.
- He has a very sensitive allergy to stronger colognes and perfumes. His reactions can range anywhere from a mild headache and inability to concentrate right up to Anaphylactic shock.
- Crippling fear of heights and falling. Usually can't go higher than the fifth floor in some taller buildings.
- He's also really claustrophobic. Anything smaller than an elevator leaves him on the verge of hyperventilating, unless it has windows.
History: The earliest memory Paul has is from a family vacation when he was four. It was just his mother, his father, his older sisters, and himself sitting in a cafe in Boston during a snowstorm. He's got quite a bit of family there, but Paul himself was born in Miami. He was the youngest of three, his older sisters being a set of identical twins who were five years his elder. Their relationship was what you'd expect, really. A fierce but playful little sibling rivalry that happens to still be ongoing, even though both of his sisters now live in Boston with the rest of the family.
When he was in school, he immediately took on the role of 'bully'. It seemed to fit him well. He was bigger and stronger than the other kids, so it was only natural, right? This lasted until he was in middle school. His own art teacher pulled him aside and spoke to him one day, asking him why he felt it necessary to pick on everyone else. Paul didn't have an answer to that question, so they kept up those talks until he realized that what he was doing was wrong. It took about a month for him to figure that out. He shifted his focus immediately after that. He'd always been pretty good at art, so why not focus on that instead?
High school was a bit of a weird time for him. He dated on and off and joined sports teams and then dropped out not a short time later. Most of the time it was because they were boring, or for some reason he didn't really like being stuck in a locker room with a bunch of other guys, or the fact that it really messed up his breathing. ...The fact that they wore cologne often part of it, not the locker room. The only real extra-curricular activity he stuck with all four years was stage crew for that year's musical and play, and debate club. That was it.
After graduation, he figured it was time to come out to his parents. So he liked guys more than girls, so what? He was a bit showy when it came to that, preferring to wait until the next family game night. They all liked charades, so when his last turn came up, he walked into one of the larger closets at home, walked out, and quietly went 'ta-daaa'. They were more upset over the fact that you're 'not supposed to talk in charades, Paul. We've been playing this game since you were a baby, you know this'.
When it came time to go to university, Paul went for a major in art before anything else. Art was his calling, art was what he wanted to do most. Getting a degree in it was just the next step. After that was done, he spent a year figuring out what to do with said art degree. It took a while, but he remembered the teacher that had pretty much changed his life, and figured... hey. Why couldn't he do that? Potentially turning a few lives around for the better might be nice. So he went for a teaching degree. After that, he spent a few years in the lower grades before figuring that he... really, really wasn't cut out to work with younger kids. Working with younger kids was boring. So he moved up to high school level after a short sabbatical.
He took another break near the end of the Versi pandemic. He'd caught it, of course. It almost killed him, but he soldiered through it. The shifting part of it didn't happen until he was back behind a desk. He was having an allergic reaction and had to run to the washroom. It didn't take long for the teacher-turned-giant-canine to convince the rest of the staff that he was in fact one of them. However, he still is quite terrified over the prospect of losing his job over it. Especially since people with dog allergies aren't exactly rare. He actually still doesn't know if he can trigger an allergic reaction in his human form or not.
The break lasted until he was able to stop sneezing himself into a dog. He returned to the best case scenario. The best case scenario in this case was cookies. Cookies led to coffee, coffee led to dinner, and dinner led to Paul and Johan dating. Two years later, he'd only managed to have a few dog-related accidents while teaching. He hadn't been fired yet, but he was still treading lightly. The pair figured they were going to be together permanently at that point, so they moved in together. Two years after that, and they've yet to meander anywhere close to a serious problem. Were it legal in Florida, they'd be at least engaged by now.
