Name: Melisande Zèphyrine Fitzroy
Nicknames: Meli, Mer, MP
Date of birth/age: 10. 13. 1990/ 21
Sexuality: Pansexual, Panromantic. Melisande doesn't care if you're a robot or an alien. If the personalities mesh well enough, and you work well enough, that's all she needs.
Job: Bartender
Degrees/Permits: High school Diploma, Bartending License.
Languages Spoken: English, French, and a small bit of German.
Human or shifter: Human
Appearance:
[PB: Ginnifer Goodwin]
Melisandre is pretty average, or so she thinks. She reaches around 5'7” in height, and sits some where around 170 lbs in weight. She's a bit on the thin side, but it tends to vary with how often she eats. She's not exactly curvy with narrow, bony hips, and being moderately endowed up top. She is pale, crossing into 'Basement dweller' territory come winter time.
Her hair is dark brown in color, though it's not rare for her to have 'Pillarbox' red streaks in it. Thin and silky, useless for putting up. It's really just a pain. So she keeps it cropped fairly short. It keeps out of her eyes most of the time! Eyes which happen to be jade green in color. They are her favorite feature. One thing is that Melisande isn't really one for makeup. Maybe a smear of eye shadow and a bit of lip gloss on normal occasions. As for formal occasions, she'll clean up nice and proper, just how her mother would like, with properly applied makeup in the right colors.
When it comes to clothing, there are two types. 'Weekday' and 'Weekend'. Either way, she dresses to accentuate what little curves she has, and her long legs, but the style depends on the day. Weekday outfits tend to flow towards what's trendy at the moment. She likes to keep it more professional though, no cut off jeans or belly tops for her, even if they are what's in style. Weekend style though? It's a better glimpse into the true Melisande. Shirts with nerdy slogans, things like My Little Pony Tees, Aquabats jackets, and vintage-looking super hero scoop necks. Oh, and of course jeans. Jeans are far superior to any other kind of lower body clothing, in her opinion. Melisande also has to wear glasses when she reads, currently she has a pair of black cats eye glasses.
Melisande has each ear pierced twice, and she has faded scars on her hands from kitchen mishaps.
Personality:
Polite and refined, Melisande has been taught since an early age how to act. At first meeting, she's rather shy and soft spoken. Though she is friendly, to an extent. She's rather guarded around others, only letting enough emotion show to not appear weird. She was pretty sheltered growing up, and due to it has become rather naive and suspicious of the world at large. Deep down though, she is pretty childish. She's quick to blush, being easily embarrassed. She also rarely curses, usually employing euphemisms like 'Fiddlesticks' and 'Napoleon's Drawers!' to truly vulgar words, and it's rather difficult to coax her into using rougher language.
Social interaction does not come easily to Melisande. She knows how to be polite, she knows proper conversational etiquette, she knows what she could be said, but she's just not good at it. Words get tangled up on her tongue, and she stumbles over simple small talk. Yet she managed to make it through. She has gained more confidence, due to her job, but outside of the bar, she really has a hard time not being embarrassed by herself.
Melisande is also easily excited. She is truly a peppy little creature. There is a lot in the world that fascinates her, from simple outdoorsy stuff like the beach, or wooded areas, to mane made things like stained glass and sculpture. She's pretty much in awe of all sorts of things. She finds life, in general, to be pretty freakin' cool. Melisande is also very positive. She likes to see that silver lining in every cloud, even in that silver lining is more of a dingy gray doomcloud. She'll just pretend. Because self delusion, in the name of happiness, is healthy, right? Wrong. But she'll continue to do it anyways, even when it accumulates into bad things. For you see, Melisande is not good in chaos. She tends to panic. So she'll keep those rose-tinted glasses, if you don't mind.
Melisande is always willing to lend a helping hand. But you will owe her. Melisande expects to be compensated for her time. She pretty much keeps a list of who owes her what, and to what magnitude. She rarely does stuff out of simple good will. If she does though? You mean something special to her. You are like, one important person. It's not often that she just shrugs off a debt, or actually gives up something out of just kindness. You see, Melisande is pretty vain. She's self centered and selfish. Not that she would admit it, of course. In fact, Melisande doesn't even really notice these facets of her personality, probably because she was always taught that was the 'Proper' way to live. If she knew she was this bad? She's be devastated. She likes to think of herself as a pretty awesome, kind person.
Her work ethic is pretty darn awesome too. Melisande knows how to put her nose to a grindstone! Melisande is, to put it simply, a hard worker. She also tends to get carried away. It isn't rare for her to lose a weekend to a project. Or a book. In fact, Melisande is just bad with time. If her phone wasn't set with a billion alarms, she'd certainly get distracted and forget about her plans. Time was always a concept she had difficulty with, even as a child. At the moment, Melisande is trying to be more independent. Too bad she's not very good at it. After living a life where most was handed to her, one where she's trying to do everything for herself is difficult. Her plans are not going as planned.
And let us not forget Romance. When it comes to the big L-O-V-E, Melisande is no deft hand. Nor she she fresh from the fields either. She's pretty much so-so in the area. Ok, let's face it. She's awful. You see, she has to be inspired to love you. You can't just stagnate or she'll leave. Every relationship she has had, has only lasted weeks because the others didn't 'inspire' her enough. She has flawed ideas when it comes to love. She has yet to notice it's a two-way street, and she's driving backwards. The sad thing, is she is usually the one to start these relationships. Melisande gets 'Flash crushes'. Someone will catch her eye, and she'll be head over heels. She actually gets somewhat creepy about it, following the person to find out what they love and enjoy so she can brush up on those topics. It's a very confusing process for anyone actually interested in Melisande.
Strengths:
Melisande is a damn good cook. Honestly, she says she can make a meal out of anything, within restraint that is. She also tends to be a bit of a workaholic, and puts all her heart into all her projects. She's also pretty quick to give people a peptalk, if they are close enough for her to care. She's all rose colored glasses, so she's happy to point out exactly WHY you are awesome.
She's pretty loyal as well, really once you become a good friend she can be sort of clingy. But she won't backstab you unless you give her an extremely good reason to. She has a hard time seeing the bad in her friends.
Weaknesses: Part of being a workaholic, she's also a perfectionist. This tends to negatively affect her health. She tends to get sick pretty easily, and due to a lack of sleep always seems to be a bit 'on edge'. She isn't very trusting, and can be hard to get close to if you end up hurting her, even if it's on accident.
Melisande is also grievously misinformed. Her parents were not fond of Shifters from the moment they heard about them. They, honestly, were always pretty xenophobic, to the point of being racist in many cases. While her father always put business first, and is fine dealing with shifters {while wearing gloves of course}, Melisande's mother outright banned her from having friendships with Shifters. They were seen as 'Lower beings' in her household. This even extended to her uncle, though her parents would not say it to his face. Due to this, she is certainly misinformed when it comes to shifters. In fact, she was taught by her mother that it was much like an STD, and she calls it 'The Fuzz'.
Also: Melisande is pretty Codependent. This new life of independence? Not working out so well for her.
History:
It would be simpler to start with her parents, rather than Melisande herself. Their marriage was almost arranged, with both families heavily hinting at a relationship, they were just lucky they fell in love before they were coerced together. Alphonse's family were 'Old money', and Estelle's were similar, though not as wealthy, but they had better connections. It only made sense for them to merge. Their wedding was beautiful, held i Alphonse had a shrewd mind for investment, and Estelle was quite the socialite. They did well together. It wasn't long after their marriage that Estelle found out she was pregnant. Neither really had expected children so soon, but they were willing to roll with the punches.
Melisande was born that following October, her parents both delighted. For most of her childhood, she was raised in the french countryside. Her mother insisted on having her taught at a young age. She learned many things, including English, Etiquette, and such. Things she would need to be a 'Proper Lady'. Melisande's mother was very traditional in that sense. Melisande, though, never thought much of her mother's idea of being a good, social housewife. The only thing she took to, besides English, was cooking. Something about cooking and baking. Her uncle Armand was especially enthused by this, and would often send her cookbooks from around the world as he traveled.
When Melisande was 10, her father started a new project. He took to investing the money his family had lived on. What did he invest in? Why oil of course! He moved his family to Texas, to live near the land he had purchased. While Melisande was indifferent to all this, her mother was enraged. Estelle did not want her daughter being raised in America. Estelle had always been rather xenophobic, and not too fond of Americans. She found them to be rather boring and uncouth. Still, life went on. Estelle did demand that Melisande was home schooled though, she did not trust the private or public institutions well enough.
It wasn't until the Flu broke out hat it got really bad though. At first, like everyone, they had assumed it was a flu. Melisande, as prone to illness as she was, managed not to get sick. Probably due to her parent's usual rigorous cleanliness standards. But her Uncle Armand did get sick. As the flu continued, and the new 'abilities' emerged, her parents were disgusted. Estelle was the first to decide Shifters were vermin, and Alphonse followed soon after. Even Armand was regarded with thinly veiled disgust. Melisande though? She was scared. Her mother took great lengths to encourage this too. So Melisande learned to fear the illness, thinking even being In the same room, or touching a Shifter could infect her.
Melisande, for a while, was scared to leave the house. She focused on her studies, her cooking and her new found love, Pop culture. Video games, Fantasy books, Rock and Comic books in general. Her mother, yet again, did not approve of most of this, but if it kept Melisande near, she let the girl indulge a bit. Melisande soon found escape via the internet. It was the internet, and her Uncle Armand who started to inform her a bit more about Shifters. No longer did she believe being in the room would infect her. While still rather misinformed on how the disease was transferred and how to deal with those infected, Melisande did not hate nor fear them like her parents did.
It was only when she was 20 years of age that she got the courage to inform her parents of her new plan. She wanted to move. She wanted to be her own person, with out their money and with out their fears. She was tired of leeching off them. Before she had graduated, she had dreamed of going to Culinary school. She was going to make that a reality. Choosing a school in Florida, Melisande moved down to Miami. Of course, she hadn't done it on her own. Uncle Armand had assisted her not only in a down payment for her apartment, but in gifting her a pair of companions. Isaac and Wekser, a pair of rats, Melisande always knew her uncle had a twisted sense of humor, but him gifting her his very own shifted animal was the icing on the cake. One thing Melisande did not think about though, was tuition. Having cut off herself from her parents for the most part {save birthday and holiday gifts}, Melisande noticed she had to get a job. There's a lot more that she would fine out as she lived in Miami. Being independent isn't easy.
