Name: Samuel Javal
Nicknames: Sammy, Sam, 'squirt', 'kid'...
Date of birth/age: August 13 / 12
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Yea this kid is how old..? (It's up in the air at this point in time!)
Job: He has an allowance, parents with money, and school to work on.
Human or shifter: Shifter
Appearance:
PB: Cayden Boyd in 'Fireflies in the Garden'.
His hair is somewhat wavy and blond, and he's got these huge oversized glasses on his face. He typically wears sneakers, pants or capris, and a t-shirt of some kind, normally without logos or what not. He's never seen without a game console in hand (or a smart phone), and his bag is guaranteed to have two things in it- his laptop, and a cat.
...The cat might come as a surprise.
Despite living in Miami all his life, he doesn't appear to have much of a tan...
He's a little small (appears somewhat younger than he is actually), and thanks to his insides being stupid about shifting he tends to be a bit lighter than he looks as well.
Personality: In a word, one could say Sammy is... 'Muffin'.
What, that doesn't make sense?
Sam is a fairly cheery kid- he's very sunny, very rarely drops a smile, and seems to have enough room in his heart to forgive even the largest of slights. He's naive- he believes too much for his own good despite his intelligence, and it's bound to get him in trouble some day. Particularly since it leaves him wide open for a fall- and when he does meet a fall, when someone he's placed on a little friend pedestal in his mind does something so horrible, so 'villainous' in his little comic 'good vs evil' eyes, that most of the world agrees the person is a terrible stain on the face of the earth, it CRUSHES him.
And yet, given nothing more than a moment, his faith can be restored, provided it wasn't a blatant ruse used to gain his affections in the first place. He's able to see the good in people- regardless of how small- and he'll do anything to hold a friendship once he spots it.
It's what happens when you grow up without many of your own, it seems; he's probably the most accepting little boy one could possibly meet. And when you have the friendship of such a boy...
He will stop at nothing, not even death, if he needs to 'protect' them. (Though chances are, he's no good at that...)
Strengths: He's highly intelligent, book wise. His parents more or less set up a series of online courses for him with no time limit, and since doing them seemed to be the only way to get much recognition from them, he flew through them as fast as possible. Unfortunately, it's not only isolated him from a majority of children his age, but... Well.
Back to strengths! He's extremely caring, and forgiving.
He can probably beat you in a game of numbers, but not a game of riddles.
If you don't have wifi, he'll probably find it for you.
...He can eat bones.
Weaknesses: He's gullible to the point of near stupidity sometimes- he'll believe anything as long as you don't try and pass it off as scientific fact.
He gets caught up in his games a lot.
Because of his intelligence, it's hard for him to really talk to anyone his age, and well... Most adults don't hang around small twelve year old boys without being called 'pedo'.
History: Sammy was born to a fairly wealthy family- his parents had come from wealth themselves, so while they were able to enjoy rather good lives playing the stocks while they went off on their own adventures, they were able to provide a more than stable home and education for their son.
The problem was, however, that Sammy came all to early for a pair of world-travelling parents, so they didn't really do much with him. Instead they had his grandparents look after him whenever they were out, smiling and being happy whenever he was around and setting him up with the best classes they could VIA the internet. They were never mean...
But at the same time, they were never there, and the praise for each lesson was fleeting- enough that, in the end, even with the speed and level of work he had achieved, it was nothing more than before.
And yet, he never hated his parents. He saw them as busy, nothing more. He spent time with his Grandparents, and perhaps it was because of this that he did not become a recluse in his world of schooling and gaming as he could have. For indeed, all he had were his classes and his video games, his cards and his books. There was no one else.
This did not stop even when the Versi virus came out. If anything, it persisted. His parents treated him no differently. His Grandparents, who barely came out alive and unaffected, merely made proper changes to what they thought would accomidate anything that happened to him. When Sammy became a Shifter, it was as though he had merely gotten a new pair of shoes.
Nothing happened, outside in the world, to him.
In the end, his grandparents felt he was lonely... But while they could no longer drive him very far (and indeed, if he had not contracted Versi in the first place, the last road trip they had would have been their last on a more permanent note), they could do something else. After much debate with Sam's mother, they put together the funds to get him a kitten- a nice playful kitten, but not one that would simply lie around and be aloof as most. Sammy's mom did not want any dogs in her house. So this as the closest they could get.
So Sammy was given a little bengal kitten, which soon gained a habit of following him around in any way possible. This became a little more important when he turned ten however. His parents, as it seemed, trusted him enough (or perhaps didn't think on it enough) to let him leave home alone for walks and things. So that is exactly what he did.
And he quite likes being able to do that, really.
Side Notes: Typically, seeing a small 11-12 year old out and about in Miami isn't a very common thing, but this is where having all of your friends online causes some issues... If the 'online friends' can even be called that. Since Sammy would often be talking to people older than he was online due to the typical intelligence barrier he unknowingly stuck himself in (loud first person gaming 12 year old, he is NOT.), he's unaware of just how... Odd it is to not talk to people his own age.
And his parents have never corrected him on this, partially because they're never even THERE- his grandparents come by rarely, becoming less and less able to make the drive needed following the Versi pandemic, and his schooling has always been done online. His parents literally see no problem with letting their twelve year old son wander Miami's streets on his own. It's a damn good thing he has the common sense not to wander into any dark alleys, actually!
As it is, he tends to stick to parks and such regardless, but with all that's happened to him or hasn't happened to him thus far, he sees absolutely nothing wrong with 'talking to strangers'. To him, it's just talking to another person. And pathetic as it sounds, he's never had a 'real life' friend, so he really would see nothing wrong with being friends with someone a number of years older than himself. If he's not a bad person and they aren't, then what could possibly be wrong with it?
Unfortunately, since you can hardly meet up with someone in real-life as instantly as online, whoever makes a good impression on him first may find himself with a 'leech' in the form of a circling vulture...

Species: Bearded Vulture ('Lammergeier')
Group: Bird
Conservation status: Least Concern
Appearance:
Abilities: Healing is somewhat higher than the norm, but his vision isn't affected at all- he was farsighted to start with, and he mind as well be such as a bird already!!
He has issues with getting his organs all back and proper after shift though, so he tends to chew more bones than would normally be safe for humans (Lammergeiers mostly eat bone marrow. Actually, it's 90% of their diet!!). Also, his eyes occasionally go red when he 'slips'... (Typically that's a shock- and the eyes will be stuck like that for about half an hour, much to his dismay.)
