Languages Spoken: English, geek.
Human or shifter: shifter
Appearance:
PB: Aldis Hodge
He's just a little over six feet tall, but not quite a whole inch taller. He tends to keep his hair short, oh so short and professional that he sometimes can't believe he's the guy in the mirror because what the hell? Seriously. He never agreed to being that grown up but hey,. if it works, it works. Jamie has one of the most expressive faces out there. He can go from sad kitten to rabidly excited beagle pup expression-wise in 0.5 seconds flat. You should be on your guard when his expression goes flat.
He has a collection of scars, childhood incidents, falling off of bikes, busting his head open on the ground of a playground once, which resulted in a nice scar crossing his left eyebrow, it isn't big and barely noticeable. He has a bigger scar across the inside of his right arm, happened during the first time he tried to build his own computer as a teenager. He was such an awkward teen, limbs going where they shouldn't and before he knew it he sliced his arm open, ruined his computer (blood and electronics, niiiiice) and needed a few stitches.
Personality:
Jamie is one of those genuinely nice guys, not the Nice Guy (TM) who keeps a tally of favours owed because he was nice to you, but genuinely nice. You can call him at two in the morning because your computer crashed or because you need to track down some troll online. He'll grumble and complain, but you can rest assured that he'll get out of bed and take care of it.
He has a rather dry, almost sarcastic, sense of humour. He admires wit and a good turn of phrase, but abhors entertainment that depends on gross outs and stupidity. He doesn't watch a lot of television these days. He gets disappointed enough by humanity at his job, okay.
Talking about his job, he hates it. He hates the people who don't know that can turn a computer off. Who don't realize that not all pop-ups online speak the truth. If it was just one or twice, but it's every day, all day and, really, these people make more than he does and they don't even know where a disc goes.
He's a very private person. He can talk with people for hours and share next to nothing about himself. Making friends is rather hard because of that, but that's okay. Really. It is. Sort of. Okay, maybe it's a little lonely but he just has to deal with that. He's made his choices, okay?
One of his most amusing traits is that he rants. He rants at inanimate objects about anything and everything that gets in his way. Coffee cups, walls, doors, rocks, everything is game when he needs to vent his frustrations about the world.
Strengths:
- Poison resistance. Poisons and toxins affect him less severely as they would other shifters and definitely less so than regular humans.
- Smart. He picks up on things and learns quickly.
- Hacker skills. While not the best hacker in the world, if given a bit of time and not too many distractions, he's good enough to create fake identities that would make government agencies jealous.
Weaknesses:
- Deeply, deeply closeted about being a shifter, to the point of paranoia. He's irrationally worried that he'll get into trouble again for being a shifter.
- Coffee dependence. Do not mess with the guy's coffee. Seriously. Don't.
- Gets very twitchy when he's without access to a computer
- Paranoid about people who know him as Terrence seeing him, since they'll know he's a shifter and that he's not really Jamie.
History:
He was born as Terrence Jones to a young, unmarried couple in Boston. His mother left, leaving him to be raised by his father. His father tried his best to be two parents at once and raise his son to be a good human being. Terrence always did his best to live up to that, tried to be good at school, have friends, help where he could. Whatever it took. He didn't want to let his dad down.
He was a good student with an affinity for computers. His love for computers persisted into college where he decided to focus on the computer sciences, preferably aiming at artificial intelligence.
His father passed away during Terrence's first year in college. It happened unexpectedly. The doctors said that it was a heart attack, that there was nothing they could have done.
So there he was, no family left. Well, he had his mother but they never really knew each other and Terrence wasn't interested in knowing her. In debt from the funeral and hospital bills, Terrence took a job at a software company that developed anti-virus and firewall software. It paid the bills and, hey, it was a steady job.
He got a girlfriend, had friends, a nice apartment, life made sense. He liked his life. And then versi came. He caught it and became a shifter. Things went a bit helter skelter after that. His girlfriend freaked out and dumped him. His employer freaked out and fired him. People in his neighbourhood freaked out and made it very clear that they didn't want 'his kind' there, near their children and what not. He wasn't attacked, but people can be very threatening while getting a point across. Especially when they come in groups.
So he ran. He grabbed his laptop, emptied his bank account for cash and disappeared for all intents and purposes. Did he overreact? Most likely, but he felt as if he had nothing left and a new start would be perfect.
While staying in sleazy motels, he erased Terrence Jones and created Jamie Kober, born in L.A, no existing family and moved down to Miami where he got a job at an IT helpdesk.
